Frugal Finds (5/6/09): Buy one get one free taco at Del Taco, then sing a taco song from this list!

The Deal Universe, or Deal-verse as I like to call it, is pretty quiet today. So, in addition to the usual gadget and entertainment discounts, the Blawgirl has put together a list of fun taco songs to accompany the buy-one-get-one free taco deal at Del Taco.

At the list at the end of this article, you’ll find taco songs that channel different musical flavors like the Backstreet Boys and Pachelbel. Enjoy!

You betta Trek yo self, for you wreck yo self. The Blawgirl did!

Ever wonder what you’d look like as a Star Trek character? Wonder no more. Cheez-It has partnered with the movie franchise, whose latest installment opens Friday, to allow fans to Trek-ify themselves.

With Trek Yourself, you can make yourself look like Capt. Kirk, Mr. Spock, a Romulan, or an officer. The only female choice is the officer so, natch, that’s what I picked. I mean, you can technically put your face on any of the other characters, but for me it just looked creepy. The Capt. Kirk and Mr. Spock

What made the Blawgirl get a little teary-eyed on Easter?

Susan Boyle of Britain’s Got Talent did. The 47-year-old singer, who says she’s never been kissed, impressed the three judges of the talent competition – including the ever-cynical Simon Cowell – after waddling onto the stage in an ivory granny dress and opaque grey tights and gyrating her hips just moments before her stunning performance.
Maybe it was Ms. Boyle’s song selection of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables and…

You can be smart and social in school. Just be pretty, researchers say

If you’ve seen the word “gunner” in law school-related forums, you’ve probably interpreted the word to mean something bad. I mean, you can basically replace it with the word “leper” without changing the intent of the sentence too drastically.
Just how bad is a gunner? Here’s an Urban Dictionary definition:
A person who is competitive,overly-ambitious and substantially exceeds minimum requirements. A gunner will compromise his/her peer relationships and/or reputation among…

Chemerinsky treatise compared to thick booty

Yes, law school and the subject matter taught in it can be less droll and more “LOL!” At least as depicted by the members of The Libel Show at the University of Virginity School of Law. The show, which is similar to the New York University School of Law’s Law Revue, is:
“an annual theatrical production which has been humoring the Law School since 1908 (making us the longest running…

The Blawgirl’s April Fools’ prank round-up, UT Law dean loves him some emus

The Blawgirl loves her a good chuckle (and referring to herself in the third person, apparently). And she also loves the clever things people do on April Fools’ Day. Here are what some pranksters have been doing around the world.

A man and his emus. My favorite prank so far today has come from the dean of the University of Texas School of Law (via blawg Above the Law). Dean…

Diversions: Love, hate, believe, feel, wish in 140 characters or less

By now, most of you have heard of Twitter, the micro-blogging service where you write what you’re doing in 140 characters or less. If not, you’ve been hiding with fellow luddites under a rock somewhere, or in North Korea, or under a rock somewhere in North Korea.
I, personally, am a fan of the site, and was delighted when I came across Twistori. The site pulls tweets, individual posts from…

Diversions: Cute things always make me feel better

Whether you’re dealing with the stress of applying to law school or the nail-biting of waiting for admissions (or, boo, rejections), I am of the mind that looking at cute things is as good, if not better, than taking aspirin.
If you don’t know me, let me explain: I am a sucker for all things cute, with special attention paid to puppies, kittens and baby elephants.
I’m one of those…

A ballad for Browncoats

Nerds and geeks now have their own balladeer. Songstress Marian Call released “Got to Fly”, an album commissioned by Quantum Mechanix Inc., in November. And though the music is friendly for non-citizens of the nerd and geek nation, the album contains special winks for those who speak geek. There’s the song “Vera Flew the Coop”, after mercenary Jayne Cobb’s weapon of choice, and “In the Black”, a nod to the…
